One of Austria’s Event Highlights is for sure the Opera Ball where the rich and the famous, the upper-class people gathers to be seen and to show off their social status with as much glamour and glitter as possible.
That The Opera Ball has a couple of alternative events is less known. One of this “contra” events is the Augustin Ball, organized by the “Augustin-Magazine”, which is sold on the streets by homeless and long-term unemployed people. In former times, to underline its role against the main event, it was called "The Ball of the Victims".
A colorful mix of people, from the editors and vendors to the readers were present and enjoying the program. The opening of the ball was followed by a humorous polonaise and live music by “Tini Trampler und die dreckige Combo”, the Indie-Rockband “Ja, Panik” and a performance by Augustin members themself). The dress-code was more or less “come as you like”.
